Debra Desautels, Personal Chef Serving the Pittsburgh Area

I’m Debra Desautels, owner of The Carefree Table.  I’ve always had a passion for cooking. As a young girl, I spent time helping my mother in the kitchen and learned the basics of getting food on the table for a busy family.   As an adult I found myself facing a familiar challenge – how to find time to make a healthy dinner after long days of work and commuting.  I would spend time on weekends planning menus, shopping for ingredients and preparing our lunches and dinners for the week.

Without knowing it, I was honing my skills as a personal chef long before I ever thought of becoming one.  Where some may find cooking to be a chore, I find the process of chopping, dicing, and cooking to be therapeutic and would look forward to spending my Sunday afternoons in the kitchen.

In 2011 I decided to leave my 20 year career in the high tech industry to turn my passion into my profession and started planning for the launch of The Carefree Table.  I want to use my experience and passion for cooking delicious, healthy meals to give you time back in your life to enjoy your family, your hobbies, and your personal pastimes – without sacrificing your health or your wealth!

My favorite dishes are hearty and full of flavor, incorporating fresh vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains with natural herbs and spices.  Western Pennsylvania has the advantage of a wealth of farmer’s markets and local artisans, making quality ingredients readily available.  I also enjoy doing makeovers of classic recipes to lighten them up and to bring in more vegetables and whole grains.  I can also help you with designing delicious menus that satisfy special dietary requirements (gluten-free, low fat, high fiber, diabetic, and others) and solve your “What’s for dinner?” dilemma for good.

I am a member of the United States Professional Chef Association and a graduate of the Culinary Business Academy.  I am fully insured and certified in safe food handling procedures.
